    Default Importing photo

When I go to File>Import and select a file (jpg, tif) then try to drag and drop it, I get a small round circle and will not let me drag and drop the image. Why is this?

This is the correct behavior when you try to drag from an import dialog.
Just select the photo and click 'Open'

Alternatively, you can drag and drop directly from Windows Explorer or even Picasa if you use it.

    Hi welcome

if you click on the file you want and then click open the file will import
you cannot drag and drop from the file import dialog box

you can drag and drop form outside the xtreme program window directly into the page

Thanks for the information. I was looking at one of Xara's video's and it looked like they dragged a photo into a oval black selection. I can not get it to go into the black selection (made with the oval tool or the rectangle tool. What did they do different? Again, I appreciate your unselfish help to new members.

If you change the fill type of the oval from "flat fill" to a bitmap then the drag and drop will work properly. See attached...

If you click on the bitmap in something like Windows Explorer (or if you already have it in the document you can also click on it in the bitmap gallery), then press shift whilst dragging and dropping it on the object it will become the fill for that object. You can then reposition or resize it as you desire.

See attachment from Xara's Help files (Probably the one you are referring to) - NOTE: If you are dragging to a shape with no fill this will just drop a bitmap over the shape unless you carefully choose the outline.
