Default Brilliant illustration / graphics arts transforms in new Realdraw Pro 5

For those who use Realdraw Pro, or have used in the past - Oscar has come up with a really brilliant feature in release 5 that emulates hand-drawn outlines, not-quite-in-the-lines 'watercolor' or 'paint', even some good etching pre-sets.

Mediachance calls it NPR - non-photo realistic, and there are some examples and videos here: http://www.mediachance.com/realdraw/rd5.html

Several pre-sets apply a variety of patterns or brushes depending on color and luminance, and you can control outline/fill waviness ('hand-drawn-ness') and other parameters.

    More examples here: http://www.mmbforums.com/ipb/index.php?showtopic=21351

UNfortunately, right now there's no easy or consistent way to move from Xara to RDP and back. WMF results in too many objects (and lousy gradient handling) and SVG comes into RDP upside down & backward, with no color or fill, and with a number of visible bounding boxes.

I've attached a JPEG of a digital photo (in Glacier National Park) that I transformed into a simulated hand-colored etching.

This thread (http://www.mmbforums.com/ipb/index.php?showtopic=21631) shows a partial copy of a 19th Century lithograph done with Real Draw vectors that I made, then several different NPR (non-photo realistic) styles attached.

This is one very interesting tool...

Dave no-one is able to view the images at the link to the mediachance forums you supply unless they sign up to become a member, or already are.

It would likely be better to continue posting your images here at TG.

Whoa - forgot that. However, I don't know how to attach more than 2 files to a reply, so this will be a muti-reply reply...

The basis for this was a tracing of a 19th C. chromolithograph from a children's book, then applied differing NPR styles.

A portion of the original from the book and my copy using a variant on the pre-set Steel Dots style, which applies a stippling very much like the stippling used in chromolithographs:

    (NPR styles part 2)

Once the Real Draw picture is done, you can create entirely different styles with a single click. Each change took about 15-20 seconds on my computer.

An engraved style (the pre-set is called Engraving BW), and a watercolor style (Tons of Water)

A sort of 1950s California school illustration (Real Paint style), and a style you might see in a toney magazine (Scratches)

Real Draw NPR styles part 4

And just for fun, the style called Manga. There are sliders in the NPR dialog pane that allow you to select the width of outlining (including 0, no outline), the degree to which the outline is made wavy ("hand drawn"), the amount of style to apply from light to heavy -- all of these are at the default midpoint -- whether to apply to bitmaps as well as Real Draw 'vectors,' and other means to control the final look.:

You can upload more than two per post. There's two ways to do this.
    Here's one:
Once you upload your first two, click the paperclip icon and select 'Manage Attachments', then you will be able to attach another two (and so on).

These NPR styles are indeed a lot of fun.
