Importing CorelXara Files

Hi,

I've just installed the trial version of Xara X1 and I'm trying to load some old files that I produced with CorelXara. Xara X1 displays two dialogs during this process and refuses to load the files. Why is that? The help files indicate the Xara X is fully compatible with CorelXara. The dialog text is:

(1) Warning from Xara X:
No filters that were designed for this file have been found.
The import will continue using the most compatible filter, although
the image may not appear as intended.
(2) Error from Xara X:
'AboutBox.xar' cannot be loaded because it is a renderable EPS file.
It is not designed to be edited by Xara X. If you still have the
original Xara X file from which it was exported please load that instead.

These errors seem completely bogus. I don't understand why it is complaining as these are just simple CorelXara files saved with the default "Save" function.

This is an important issue for me and will determine whether I buy Xara X1 or not. Please respond soon because I'm using the 15 day eval version.

Have you tried just copying and pasting the files into X1.

I din't know corelXara was still used anywhere...

The fact that X1 handles bitmaps differently now, might also be a contributing factor.

I don't understand why CorelXara would not be supported. That's essentially only 2 versions back, isn't it. I only know of 3 "versions" of Xara:
1. CorelXara
2. Xara X
3. Xara X1

It's like Microsoft Word 2003 not being able to open Word 97 files. Or Paint Shop Pro 7 not being able to open Paint Shop Pro 5 files.

To me this is a _BUG_.

You know what else is strange about this... The preview dialog is able to show the image but when it comes to loading it Xara X1 refuses to load it!! Does that make any sense? And the documentation says that it can load CorelXara files.

I suspect that the thumbnail generator has not changed which is why you can see the preview image. But that is all it is, a small preview of the image and not the actual image itself.

I have the same issue with some older files. I tried import but got the same result / error message.

I see this info in the file header...
