    Default Don't you wish sometimes..

..that you'd never started a job?

Just suggested to a client that we pull the plug on a flash website project - not because it couldn't be done, or the budget was a problem, but simply because email communications were becoming increasingly difficult - capital letters to emphasis things, tone that makes you think you're back in school.

I just didn't think it was worth the money to push it to the bitter end. A few days of on and off effort down the plughole. First time I've actually suggested parting ways with a paying client.

Ok, I feel (a bit) better now.

I have found that if you do a short contract first, to see if you can work with the client, then there is not a hard parting if things don't work out. They just find another developer. I find that clients like this approach also.

Distancing yourself from such people is a move worth making.

Reminds me of an absolutely beautiful website I designed for a high-end jewelry store, complete with more than 200 photos, close-up, of amazing jewelry.

I had received a small down-payment, and put in far more hours on the photography and design than I had intended, to make the website look like the store:

The store's marble floor was the pattern I used for a background.
There were some gorgeous antique cabinets, with fancy ornamental carving. I used the maple of the cabinets to make buttons, complete with the carving.

I was so excited. When I called to set up an appointment to show off the site, the store had gone bankrupt. Never to be seen again.

    Sigh....

    GREAT idea, Paul...

There was one piece that had 42 carats of emeralds set in gold. Truly awesome. It would have compensated me handsomely!
