Very cool fly...
Here is a sticker for the phone booths in metropolis... with your permission
I love it!
As per my attached file... It's the little things (shapes) that break-up the monotony (IMO)... that makes it all "non-obvious", and adds a bit of "flavour" (circled) and makes it look good.
As a pictogram, I would try to work out two things (IMO)...
Eyes are drawn to symmetry... The "circles" = heads... Not being at the same height makes the woman look "bigger"... The hair of the female touching the top of the space, adds to the effect.
The male arm not reaching as high as the female arm further enhances the discord (not sure of the right word?).
Practically - if put on the same sized plaque it will probably be noticeable... The female symbol would seem bigger than the male one. They would not be "filling" the same amount of space.
Nitpicking? Absolutely. Just wanted to throw in something for you to look at (and ignore if you choose). In all, I would be personally more than happy had I come up with that great design.
It's always easier sitting on the sidelines and being the smart ass.
Cheers.

hi risto - thx for your detailed constructive critique.
i'm still experimenting with this series. more to come.
the girls head is set higher to express her female character.
her legs are longer than his and she should look slimmer.
the man is more compact and smaller (there's a prostitute and an old men comming too where i have to make them different size too :b).
it's fun to experiment with limitations of picto creation.
i've choosen to add some color to each and some small detail that usually isn't found in pictos like the addidas like stripes on his slipper or the yellow super-belt or the super-feet :b

Thanks, FLy,
I get her legs (and I think they work great as is). I was more thinking of "space" when the pictograms are "confined" to something (as a plaque).
Females in general (...in the 30+ countries I have visited, worked and lived in) are normally shorter than males (on average, no?) so, I'm not sure how her "female character" (the pictogram) is being enhanced by making her taller than her male counterpart?
Isn't the point of pictograms to deliver a quick "snapshot" message based on people's "preconceived" (and accepted) notions of something?
As for women always being giants "in character" -- Well, I agree there... But supposedly, it gets better after 15 years of marriage... (Yes? Please!? )
Again, I'm nitpicking to get a constructive discussion going. Pictograms and TG... Could we find a better place to learn about different cultures? The design in itself = I love it. FLy, my post really isn't meant to be a put-down. With all the different countries represented here at TG -- an amazing opportunity to learn something new.
The World. Pitch in!
As a non-moderator, I would like to see it happen! I am joking of course, I'm sure it will be quite all right.

hey risto,
you're welcome to criticise - i like to hear your opinion and think it over :b
don't worry - i don't take it as a put-down.
it's good to hear others thoughts in detail.
women are smaller - true. but i like the combo of a smaller muscle man and a huge big breasted girl better :b
