    Hi Zupdude

I would also like to be able to save and move my workspace settings. Many of us have Xtreme both at home and at work. I expect most of us want the same workspace in both places.

I'm very familiar with Corel's approach to workspaces from my DTP app, Corel Ventura. My main Ventura workspace is highly customized, and I have a second, "stripped down" version that I use for scripts when recording in Camtasia. It's great to be able to swap between them. Those workspace files, like my Xtreme templates and hotkey file, are the first things that go into safe storage when I make changes in my machine.

Although there's no easy way to save or transfer your control bars and options, hotkeys are stored in an ini file. If you haven't already, check out the Load and Save buttons in the hotkey dialog.

    Hi guys,

    Long time no see.

Bumping this thread because it wasn't really resolved.

I've just got a new PC with Vista Ultimate and, having installed XXP4 onto the new computer I want to move my very fussy and customised workspace settings across two 20" monitors from the old PC to the new. Both XP and Vista use the same registry set-up, but the usual trick of exporting from one reg and adding to the new doesn't seem to work.

Has anybody done this successfully and, if so, how?

    Many thanks in advance

    Hi Frank,

It has been a long time.

I just made a test using a winXP laptop and a Vista Home Premium desktop.

I turned off my custom control bars on the desktop and closed XXP4, and reopened to make sure the bars were gone. Closed XXP4 again.

I exported the BarsNormal key from the registry on the laptop and copied to a USB drive.

Plugged the USB drive into the desktop then double clicked the barsnormal.reg file. I confirmed that I do want to write the contents of the .reg file to the registry.

Open XXP4 and all my custom control bars are back in place.

Were there any other settings you wanted to copy?

    Hi Bill,

Thanks for running that test for me. It seems like you have it sussed, but what I'm trying to do is definitely not working. Could you try this for me please?

    • On your XP laptop:

      1. Launch XXP4
      2. Create a custom toolbar, anything will do, give it a name, "Bill" for example. Place it, undocked, in the middle of your workspace.
      3. Shut down XXP4
      4. Export the reg key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Xara\XtremePro\4.0

    • Now on your Vista desktop:

      1. Import your key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Xara\XtremePro\4.0 from the USB stick
      2. Launch XXP4
      3. And the result is....?

That is all I want to achieve. In fact I have even gone so far as to keep Regedit open on Vista whilst I import the key. And, upon hitting F5, I see the tree structure change as it imports my values (a default installation has no BarsFull key).

But as soon as I launch XXP4, still with Regedit open, I see the values revert to the default.

By the way, I'm running Vista with User Account Control switched off.

This is beginning to bug me now. Especially since I know you're not having the same problem!

Frank I followed your instructions and it works. See the attached image, it is a screen shot of XXP4 on my Vista Home Premium system.

The control bar is in the exact location as on the laptop.

UAC is turned off on both of my Vista systems.

I don't understand it. When I do exactly the same

    IT
    DOES
    NOT
    WORK

I have resigned myself to not trying any more and to copy/recreate my workspace settings manually. I've spent far more time on this than it would have taken to do it manually in the first place.

Thanks for your help anyway. Take care.

This is what I'm talking about... lots of room to move! Only took me about 45 minutes to organise, should have done that in the first place.

You're right, maybe I need two 26" widescreen monitors...
