Default How to extract logo from an image

Hi everyone, I have an image with our company logo on it that I need to single out so that I can use it on other documents. How would I extract the "Inverness Landing" logo from this image?

    [ img removed ]

I need to have it on a blank background...is this possible in photoshop?

    Thanks in advance

If the attached image is the best source then you are in trouble. To get the best result it would be best if you could figure out what font is used and then try ti recreate it. the second best thing is to "hand trace" the logo either in a vector drawing program, but it's possible to do it in Photoshop as well. If you have a larger version of the logo you could try to use the magic wand on the white areas of the logo, fill the selected area on another layer and then apply stroke and last a drop shadow.

I find it extraordinary that the only copy of your company logo available to you is one which appears on a webpage banner.

To answer your question. You cannot 'extract' objects from a Raster image, for a raster image is infact '1' image only, which has many different coloured pixels that make up the image and defines the objects as seen by us.

Your options are to redraw the logo in a Vector program, such as was likely used when the original logo was created.

It's not a difficult logo to reproduce.

I have removed the hotlinked image as it may infringe copyright.

I too am thinking that rebuilding it from scratch would be the best option. I have the logo on a few other sources, and I've tried playing around with the magic wand, etc. but I don't think I'll be able to make it look professional...too spotty and grainy. Thanks for the help

You could always make the layer with the logo uneditable, then recreate the logo by tracing over it on another layer.

this is so much easier done in a vector graphics package (Bitmaps get grainy when enlarged, vectors do not) For example Adobe Illustrator, Corel Draw or (my favorite) Xara Xtreme. There are other vector design packages out there. Maybe some other folks will list a few more.

Just for anyone else who is curious, this is what worked best for me. I scanned a letterhead sheet that has the logo on it, then loaded that into Illustrator. Since it was all black and white, live trace worked very well and made a great copy. Thanks for the help.

Don't the people who made the letterhead have a digital copy of your logo? Couldn't you have got it from them?

You can get the font used placing a copy of your image containing the text.
Upload the image in http://www.myfonts.com/WhatTheFont/ and the name of the font will appear.
I done it and the name is Optimal Black, next you just have to draw the rest of the logo.
    I hope it is helpful
