    Instead of using a "Text Area" you could achieve the same result with a "Text Column".

    See attached for possible applications.

    The advantage with using the area's, is that they can be linked so that any overflow (or underflow? [What is the opposite of overflow?]) can run into adjacent text area's to keep the work flowing correctly.

    Yes, that is a benefit of using a text area.

    Something which is perhaps not immediately obvious is that the shape does not necessarily have to be in the same Layer as the text. A shape in any Layer that is situated above any text Layers will impact on the text in all the Layers below.
