Hi John, Bob actually wanted to be able to install XP on a new machine which came pre installed with Vista, this is rather more complex and definately not straight forward as is the other way around (which is shown at TechRepublic).
This was already discussed early on in the thread.

Below the tutorial there are some links to useful information
about the mysteries and myths of Vista.
Ordered the Dell Inspiron 530 online today.
Up to 2 weeks for delivery depending how much is being
altered to the base model...but there was an offer for free
delivery so that helps take the sting out of the final price
for pretty much all of the upgrades available of €1,027.27,
which is about £4.17 or $1.86 usd. From where I sit in my
study I can usually see the Seur courier van pass my window
on its way to the local bar, which is the delivery address.
Sad person that I am, I'm looking out for it already.
Don't know why, the bar always rings me if there's an item
awaiting collection.

Glad you're getting things sorted Bob. Pondering myself whether to put Vista on a partition on mine, just to get used to it for the future, but SCARED! Thing is, I don't need to - yet - whereas unfortunately you do have to get something new, so any info on how Vista copes with your programs greatly appreciated

Bit confused over your €€/££/$$ conversion but sorted it out to £818 and $1600 - which is not bad for an all-in deal.
