Panorama

I took 3 photographs yesterday, to make a pano with XXP4. The CD had arrived the day before, and while I was installing it over the downloaded trial, I saw Magix's panorama offering. What the hell, I've got oodles of space, so I let it be installed.

I fed the 3 pictures to PanoramaStudio, and yeah, it was slow, and produced quite acceptable results, similar to other panorama creators.

Then I fed them to XXP4, thinking "Now you're gonna see something!" I love being impressed by Xara.

The first 3 images below are the 3 photographs to be stitched.

The 4th image is PanoramaStudio's product, and the last one is XXP4's product.

What am I doing wrong? I used default setiings in both.

I have found that sometimes less photos are better. Try removing your middle photo and see if that works better.

Thanks Gary -- but that wouldn't explain why the XXP4 version is different from the Magix version, despite being fed the same data?

The pano programs I've used (not many though) have all seemed to prefer a hefty wodge of overlap, presumably to facilitate finding matchups.

Well Anton, I just got the CD so I've been experienting the last couple hours with the full version of the stitching program. This included 19 photos (a full 360 degrees). I was standing in an intersection in hilly area (Joplin, Missouri) so there were a lot of converging elements. I was quite surprised and pleased with the results.

clouds aren't a good image detail to hang judgement of panorama-stitchers off. Its surprising how much they can change between contiguous shots, even in short time frames, and those images are rather 'busy'. The clouds are quite spectacular in formation and have high and low level clouds so there's a lot going on in the images.
That said PanoramaStudio has done a good job with them. I haven't played with Xara for photo stitching as I have another program just for that. I expect there's a way for manual adjustment?

Hi Anton, clouds can be hard to stitch, easy to grab a bit of cloud and bring it across...this is a quick job done in xara but in 5 mins and you could do it really well...regards tao

Regardless, it is still an impressive cloud photo.
I did a difficult 4 shot mine (massive is an understatement) photo. I just used Xara to align them and crop. Then exported as a jpg. It blew up to A3 with great results.
