I tried tif with transparency it works, what about other file formats?
Can you be more specific. For example, was the TIFF file totally transparent, or did it have areas of transparency such as the background?
My first guess is Xara will see a rectangular bitmap.
But I just tried this and Xara does not see the rectangle, just the circle. The blue dashed outline is the actual shape of the bitmap.
On the other hand, if I make the entire bitmap transparent, then Xara does not see it and the text is not repelled.
Interesting.

Out of interest I tried this with PNG expecting a rectangle around the fruit but got this.

Text is repelled by anything not transparent .... Adding transparencies to items that repel text, sometimes has bizarre results, as you can start getting text inside the object. Sometimes masks have to be used to protect repelling areas.

Try a PNG transparency with a large "hole" in it (like a donut shape). You might get a big surprise.
Repel must be programmed to look for an Alpha channel first before deciding how to wrap to a bitmap.
Correct - it looks for alpha channel transparency, only areas not completely transparent will repel. It was done this way deliberately so that alpha channel photo clipart such as Masque's example would work as you see.
