Default Problems after opening a tiff file

When I click to open, in Xara, a tiff photo image from within Windows Explorer or open it from within Xara using File\Open, it opens fine but it shows “Page 1 of 2” on the Status Line.
When I try to find the page 2 by scrolling down I get an “Access violation exception” message immediately after scrolling takes place, which reveals no second page.
If I click the down arrow on the on the extreme right of the Status Line , near the “Page 1 of 2”, nothing happens – no scrolling takes place, no second page - but the same “Access violation exception” message appears..
The same behaviour occurs if I open using New\Blank photo\Open

When I use File\Import and select “Insert” the file opens up with 3 pages – the first page is blank as expected, the second page displays the full sized tiff as “Image1” (300dpi) in the Status Line, but the third page displays a smaller sized version of the same tiff but as “Image 2” (300dpi).

AMD Athlon 64 Dual Core Processor 4800+
    NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GTX

Any one experienced anything similar or can offer an explanation for this behaviour?
    Thanks

TIFF files can be multi-page, maybe that's why it's blowing up? If you have access to some other software you could perhaps check that out and make a single page version and see if that fixes the problem.

TIFF is one of the formats I never use, so I don't have any real experience with it. It's popular with a few users around here who use it for print purposes, so they might know more.

    Thanks Odat

I tried opening in other programs before seeking help with this thread.

The file opens without any problems and without any page 2 in
    Paint Shop Pro/ Photoshop Elements/
    Corel Draw and PhotoPaint/
    Windows Picture and Fax Editor
    Microsoft Office Picture Manager
    etc.
So it appears that the problem is with Xara.

Indeed, it was a bit of a shot in the dark.

Perhaps there's a bug in Xara that makes it think TIFF files are multi-page when they're actually not, or something like that.

Have you contacted Xara support about it?

My wife and I both use TIFF a lot, it works fine with XX4 on my computer but have crashed on hers. I haven't yet figured out why but my point is that they do work. I've been trying to duplicate her problem on my computer by using the same file but as of yet haven't managed to duplicate it.

Tiffs can get mighty large, Is her machine radically different from yours? for example you have 128 GB and she has 128 MB... I have seen many tiffs that would gag almost any program and open nicely in xara. It is very hard to gag xara, but if it is big enough she will gag.
