Default changing start font in document

    Hi Folks,

I have got aproblem and I can not figure out how to fix it.
I create a new document and type in some text with for example Helvetica font, then save it to HD and close the document.

After that I open the newely created document in font field, when activating Text tool, ther is Time New Roman active font, see also enclosed image.

I tried to change the font to Helvetica and then saved the document but it did not help.

I have changed start up template and when I start Xara ther is correctly Helvetica in font in font field but as soon I save the document and load it again the start up font is changed to Times New Roman.

Have anybody and Idea on how to get wished font at opening a document?
    I am almost broken.

    Cheers
    Pawel

    Hi PAwel,

You need to set the font with nothing selected to change the default font. Then save as your default template. Close xara, reopen and now you have whatever you selected as a default font.

I think pawel wants an existing document to open with the last used font as default font John - I don't know how to do that...

Edit: the last used font in the document before it was saved - in other words save current font attribute with the file...

Let's try this again slower... Step by step.

    1. Open a new document (cntrl-n)
    2. Press ESC (this will make sure nothing is selected.
    3. Select you font.
    4. A popup opens asking if you want to make this a default. - select okay
    5. Press Save TEMPLATE not file
    6. If you want to have this as your default font for all new files, then click on the default template check box.
    7. Press the save button

close xara and reopen... It should work... It has worked on mine for years and worked tonight.

If you save it as a regular file it does not save the default font with it, at least it does not read it. I have seen either Ariel or Times New Roman if you try and open as a regular file via the file open command.

Drop either of these templates into your templates/Eng folder and open a new file with them. The Default font should be Verdana...

    Hi Pawel

I had a quick look in the registry - but could not find anything useful to force existing documents to open with a specific font active in the infobar

Best you can do is type the letter h instead of scrolling down the list which will speed things up slightly by taking you directly to the 'h' fonts

Unless someone else comes up with some thing better, sorry.

Steve, following Johns method above works fine. (Tested in Xtreme 3.2 and Xtreme 4)
Just ensure that the document with the font set you want as default is saved to the templates folder and is opened via 'File->New'

You could change all Xara included templates by this method if you so desired..

    steve

pawel question is not about templates - he can do that - see original post - he made one with helvetica

what he wants is for a saved document to re- open with a predefined font active
