    thx sledger,

just did a little video with the file i provided.

first some mouse-wheel-zooming with 3.02 (don't mix ths up with 3.2)

then the same with 4.0 which really takes ages and partly unresponding lags

Well I agree FLy, there does appear to be an appreciable difference.

    re-bump :b

any news on the speed problem?

i should have talked about it in 3.2 already. i guess now most of us work on 3.2 and don't notice the difference.

but compared to 3.02 it's very noticable.

sorry to be such a pest,

We are not convinced it is any slower, despite appearances. All our measures show it's in fact as fast if not faster than old versions, and this is just an illusion because we have more zoom steps (and we removed the flicker that used to happen).

Using the Xara clipart gallery sample 'Microscope' as a test example with XtremePro 4 and XtrememPro 3.2.4 - I can definately confirm that XtremePro4 is much faster at zooming in/out. There is a visible redraw delay with 3.2 as higher zoom levels are reached, yet seem almost instant in version 4.

It would be rare (for me) to create anything which exceeds 960 objects on one layer.

    hi charles,

    did you watch the video?

    there's a dramatic zoom in-out performance change.

i tried illustrator too and it acts like 3.02.

the slow behaviour of 4.0 is most obvious with the drawing (using caligraphic lines) i provided.

    hi guys
    i definitely confirm
x4.0.4966 DL is much much slower than x2.0a DL
in terms of zooming using wheel
    i really don't like it
it simply cannot be like this!!!
it works as slow as all other oponent applications

please give me my old version speed
why it has to be this way
    does anyone complain on flickering
and wanted to have much slower app instead of flickering?
    i really doubt

    fix it pleeeeeeez

There is still a problem here as some people are saying. While Xara 4 redraws faster than version 2, the difference is that the entire display has to be fully redrawn in V4 before the next wheel-zoom operation begins. Even if Xara 4 had as few zoom steps as version 2, it would take longer to zoom in to a given high zoom level, because version 2 begins a zoom before the screen is fully redrawn (resulting in the 'flicker').

In other words, with the version 2 behaviour reproduced in 4 as is being requested, zooming in would require more steps but would be much quicker than happens now.

My preference is for the faster zoom at the expense of 'flicker'.

Testing on Vista, XP SP2, and Windows 2000 SP4; Xtreme version 4 zooms as fast or faster than other versions. Tests made using Ctrl+Z as well as selecting the Zoom Tool.
