Default A Question from Joypauline: brocade or silk-like effect

Does anyone out there have any ideas about creating a brocade or silk-like texture within XaraXtreme???? I have produced some in Photoshop but I DO prefer my Xara environment.
    Thanks in anticipation!

For Brocade I would create a bunch of repetitive shapes, group them , apply an internal rounded bevel, then fill with a bitmap of your choice.
In this example I've also applied a grain texture effect in the hope of making it appear more like an old woven fabric piece.
(The original bitmap is a photo of an acrylic painting I did last year.)

I think silk would just be a multistep linear fill. Just using shades of the same color...

In the attached example just redefine the color named base, and the entire cloth should change. Depending on the intensity of the light and the depth of the folds of the cloth you might want to pick more contrasting shades.

Egg - at what scale will it be seen? It probably makes a big difference in technique --- from a satin look like Rich was attempting to more woven like Andrew's example.

You have misread this thread. It is not Egg's question but Pauline's a new member to the conference who is asking how to create a silk brocade effect.

Egg just moved the question to this new thread.

Pauline, welcome to the Xtreme Conference.

Perhaps if you could post the image you created in Photoshop we could try to recreate it here?

Gary - I did notice the "Joypauline" thing but thought she must be one of Egg's girlfriends or something like that. Since he posted it, it looked like he was doing the asking. I guessed he'd be advising her of any answers received...

I've really got to use darker ink...
