It's only of value if the shadow doesn't need to overlay another object. I'm not sure if placing the individual shadows and vectors on different layers would help.

I'll give it a try.

EDIT: No it wont work that way. You'd need to go to Davids suggestion of using a blend to create a shadow in this case. That's not difficult to do though.
