    That said, a 600dpi TIFF is probably every bit as good.
    Unless you are using your normal printer driver instead of the RIP, a TIFF still has to go through a RIP. A RIP isn't a file per se, it's a process and replaces your printer driver.

    Find out what LPI resolution they will be printing at and double this figure for the DPI resolution. So if your printer is printing at 300 LPI (lines per inch) then double that and you get 600DPI or PPI.
