    Default newbie... export??

Hm, just downloaded Xara. so I am VERY new here.

Tried to export to EPS and AI - and no matter I couldn't get it to export right!

I would so like it to export the bevel effect correctly in vector. Is that possible?

Is there a way to clear/ remove an effect?
Is there a way to copy color and other effects from one object to another?

    First round of questions *ss*

I'm used to Illustrator CS3 and CorelDraw X3 - I liked the quick effects I saw in Xara, but am a bit worried that I cannot make it work together with the other two programs...

    Hope to get answers

    regards Helle
PS: I own Freehand 10, but the Xara website won't accept the serial number for a discount? Has any body else experienced that?

    Hi Halle,

    Welcome to Talkgraphics.

Xara Xtreme has features that other vector graphics programs cannot emulate.

When export from Xtreme to use in other program it is best to keep objects as simple as possible so you do not use a function the other application cannot read.

Bevels, shadows, some fills, and some transparencies that Xtreme creates easily cannot be read and therefore not imported or opened in other applications.

Is there a way to clear/ remove an effect?
the Undo button on the InfoBar (just above the drawing area) will work for everything accept for live effects. There is an icon on the Live Effect infobar to remove an effect.

Is there a way to copy color and other effects from one object to another?
Copy the object (use Ctrl+C, or the edit menu, or the right click popup menu to copy). Select the object you want to assign the attributes to and Ctrl+Shift+A to paste attributes.

With the exception of contours and bevels

Well, I guess I can use this program for Photoshop then ....
It's a shame that those great features cannot be exported!

The undo won't cut it. I mean after you have applied a lot of things to an object you might want to remove let's say a drop shadow or a bevel - can that not be done later??? (see pic)

    "LiveEffect" ... must play around....

Yes you can remove the drop shadow at anytime by selecting your object and clicking the DropShadow tool (Alt+F3), then on the Info bar, click the 'No shadow Icon'.
You can remove other effects and attributes in a similar fashion.

Halle which features are you specifically wanting to export?

Depending on the feature and the application you want to use the exported artwork, it may be possible. There are also work arounds to the limitations of other programs.

It is not that Xara cannot export them, it is that other programs are limited in their abilities to use them. I have no real information about why other applications do not include the ability to import .xar files, but I think they don't want to show how limited their own tools are in comparison.

BTW I do not work for Xara, only another user of the program.

don't worry Soquili - I'm not a judge of which programs to use. I grew up with Corel... so I naturally work pretty fast drawing in Corel.

I really like the bevel tool (haven't try all the tools yet) and had hoped it could be converted into a fill all by it self

Sorry Halle, I did not intend to sound so negative. I have CorelDraw X3 and Illustrator 10 as well as several other vector and raster graphics applications.

After you apply a bevel you can convert to editable shapes. Then you have the original shape and the bevel shape as a group.

I just made some tests. Exporting to .cmx from Xtreme 3.2.4 CorelDraw X3 open the file without any problems and the bevels are intact.
Exporting to .ai and opening the file with Illustrator CS3 (trial download version) there is a warning but clicking OK the file opens and the two beveled objects are grouped but are intact. Ungrouping the objects allows them to be edited individually,
