Default Using a xara drawing as "Bitmap" fill

    Hi..

I have made a simple drawing in xara that I want to use as a bitmap fill. The only problem is that if I convert the drawing to bitmap, the colours are changed.

Is there a way that you can take a Xara drawing and use it as a bitmap fill?

How are you creating the bitmap? saving as a jpg or png should not change the colours. You can just use the create bitmap copy within Xara and then use that as the fill.

Do you use something like stained glass transparency? Thats the only reason for colour change i recall If it is the case you have a problem... PNG cant handle such things and Xara cant use its own drawing as fill (unfortunately, SVG can do that).

another possible reason could be your palette options/color depth in the bimap copy [or export] dialog box is set too low, restricting the number of colors

Sorry for not getting back earlier.

I have drawn a rocket, much like a tintin rocket. (see the image)

This rocket should have a cubic fill like Tintin rocket.
So I draw 4 simple sqares 10x10 pixels and joined them together.
I used a solid colour and converted it to bitmap, and when I did that the edges of the squares changed its colour.

You can see that when you zoom in on the rocket.

And I just don't understand why you can't use an xara image as a fill image???

It may have something to do with the resolution.
    Printers use 300 DPI
    Computers/ websites use 96 DPI
Your bitmap is set to a generally useless 14 DPI

If I had a pair of blue/ white chequered socks and pulled one of them over my head, I'm sure the colours would also change.

If it is your DPI, the either make your boxes much bigger before converting them to a bitmap or save at a higher DPI 'bitmap size'.

its a problem with the bitmap resolution - you have two choices

    1) draw them much bigger and make a bitmap copy at the default resolution of 96dpi - then reduce in size

    2) draw them at the size you did but when you make the bitmap copy make it at a higher resolution - say 300dpi

I think most would do 1) - you will need to experiment to get the hang of it

Still so much to learn about Xara.

Where do you work the DPI settings?
