Default How can a create a graphic with text fonts that overlap?

    Hi

How can a create a graphic with text fonts that overlap?
    e.g. see the attached.

i.e. In the word "Spa" notice how the bottom of the "P" curls back underneath
the "S". Is this something normal fonts can do?
And if so do any of you have any idea what font they are using?

Some fonts are designed like that e.g. The Classic Font in the example. Some fonts have to be adjusted with manual kerning. (Look up kerning in the help file).

As to the specific font, you have to search for the one you want using a font viewer like Fontseeker.

It's also possible that in some cases it's not a font at all - Maybe it's been converted into a shape and manipulated from there.

    Hello Ship

    Welcome to the Xtreme Conference.

Unless I am missing something (always better than possible) it is simply a matter of placing one bit of text over another. In other words, there are two text objects.

    Gary,

That's a possible, but if you look at the font he posted and the Classic Font that I posted, I think you'll find that these fonts were actually designed like that.

Exactly - these fonts are designed this way. It's simply a matter of choosing the right font for the job.

Have a look through the Script fonts at Abstractfonts online. All free..

FYI - They're called ligatures, but there are also fonts with various decorative capitals and lowercase letters with ascender and descenders that can reach up/down and around other letters, called "swash" , e.g., the swash fonts at MyFonts: http://www.myfonts.com/browse/keyword/swash/

Your example is more swash than ligature - see Wikipedia for all you want to know and more about the latter: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Typographical_ligature ... and a tiny amount for swash, but with some examples: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swash_%28typography%29
