Ripples

I was reading a MS Design tutorial on making ripples, and tried it a little different way.

I made a PNG stroke and applied it to an arc.

The image for the stroke. This was PNG/alpha for the transparency of the feathered edges, and the shape itself. With a grayscale image as a stroke, the stroke becomes transparent depending on the shade. Because I wanted to highlight and shade, this needed to be a transparent image. This retains the white in the stroke. I used an XXP line shape and adjusted the fill profile to have a light and dark profile on either side. When a stroke is reversed, the light and dark reverse. The ends were rounded to be more like I see in natural ripples. An ellipse (circle) in E3 is created differently than in XXP for instance. In this case, I split the circle to get two arc paths, and applied the stroke in two directions. Depending on the appearance, I may have used variable width to adjust the ends. Rich

Thanks for the thought. I used the Redfield plugin on Big Fish. I have had that plugin for a while, and believe it was included in XXP. I just like to try and do things myself. This was another attempt to make a shading image that would appear as a ripple. I tried this with an image that was made of concetric rings shaded to make a shaping profile.

I've been getting some interesting results with Redfield Water ripples, but so far when exporting the image it always comes out alot lighter than the original even when adjusted darker..........any ideas where I'm going wrong???

I didn't see a variation in the image I tried.

Maybe do a screen shot of the plugin window to show how the parameters are set.

A standard test image would be good too. The less variables the better.

OK so I went back to basics and started again............this time without the original problem
