I like the current alignment tool. A simple click on the left side aligns the selected objects to the left. Same for Top, Bottom, Right, and Center. Much easier than the toolbar icons in other applications.

... and using Ctrl and Shift make it even more powerful. Great tool.

    I'd like to add one:
Select ALL INSTANCES of a single colour eg: alt+click colour selects all shapes globaly that uses the same colour (click either on colourline or one shape with colour that you want globally selected). This could additionally cause the colour editor to popup enabling you to make colour changes?
That is an interesting idea Sledger, could be very useful in some circumstances.

Align dialogue; yes I know opinions differ on this. Perhaps once it is mastered it is O.K., but I don't use it that often and it is counter-intuitive to me, simply because of the unusual way it works.

Exactly. Here's a quick idea of how it could look like.

If the colour editor is going to have 2 modes, instead of separate editors for line and fill (optimal solution, as it would be perfect to be able to change them both while having the other's editor open), please add a key shortcut to launch the editor in either mode:

Ctrl+E to open the fill colour editor
Ctrl+Shift+E to open the line colour editor

    thanks,

    Jon

I do this now with the "Current layer always visible and editable" option.

I use it too, but now and then I'd like to see only the layer I'm working on. The "solo" buttons would do just that.

That's what I'm saying. With that option on, I uncheck everything else and move from layer to layer, seeing/editing only the selected layer.

I can see how the radio button would be useful if you have dozens of layers. OTOH, it's another piece of screen real estate gone, so I can also see how it wouldn't work for everybody.
