Overriding Photoshops 31 character file name limit.

Hi All.

I am working on a site, and i have a folder of over 3000 images that all need to be downsized and saved out for the web - OK no problem there; create an action, then automate the whole lot... But when i did this, any image with a long file name gets truncated, this is not acceptable as i need to replace the files that are currently in use on the server and over write them. Does any one know if, and where there is an option to stop PS truncating the file names when i save them for web. Or if there is any freeware (mac or PC) that can do this?

IrfanView offers a great Batch conversion (with image processing and rename functions).

Photoshop can do this. The limit is due to old Mac OS compatibility. Just deselect this option - in the "Batch" (if you auto-save via "Batch" tool) or in "Output Settings" dialog (if you auto-save via "Save for Web").
