The dangers of using xara all the time

yes Adobe loading times are absolutely ridiculous. Like starting windows :-P

i find that the load up times for me is only a minute on p'shop while illy takes about 3 mins.

maybe its how your pc is set up?

PS 15-20 sec
Illustrator 30 sec
Indesign 45 sec... and add to that the load time for a book :-/

Available CPU, RAM, amount of installed fonts & plugins, automatic update settings etc all affect the load times.

On my main production box Photoshop CS3 Extended loads and is ready to go in 5 seconds which is much quicker than CS which I used previously. On the other hand Illustrator CS3 takes 35 seconds. Xara 3.2 takes 15 seconds.

Isn't it strange how Adobe products differ? I and many other people love Photoshop and I couldn't consider using any other bitmap editor but Illustrator - gah! I have a good friend who decided to move to Mac platform after years of being a PC and Xara user so he had to learn Illy and was frequently seen in fits of utter frustration.

When quoting startup times, please remember that often software loads much faster the second time you use it. On my laptop (2.4Ghz, Pentium M, 2GB memory), first load of Photoshop CS3 is (very roughly) about 40-45 seconds, subsequent loads are about seven seconds. Ill CS3, first load: about 1 minute 20 seconds, subsequently about 25 seconds.

Xtreme Pro 3.2 - 18 seconds first load, 9 seconds thereafter.

I will own up to doing this timing without a watch, just counting on my fingers. I suspect the actual load times are probably faster rather than slower.

Never mind my hands, it's pretty hard getting gloves.. ;-)

Lets say, for counting purposes, after ten I tend to go for finger and thumb reuse. It saves me having to use my third hand..
