The dangers of using xara all the time, well you tend to not use indesign and other adobe programs and you fall behind.
Is there truth in this?

"Fall behind" how? You certainly don't fall behind in your mortgage repayments or rent, because you get off the Adobe upgrade round-about. As long as you get your work done on time, I don't see any problem at all. In fact, most time with Xara, you get your work done in time to go to the beach, something you rarely do with Adobe garbage.
Yes i love xara and i do things with it that takes fraction of the time to do compared to adobe products, but adobe is industry standard and if one day anyone of us want to join the work force that is what we have to know.
I agree the updates are useless and expensive, I can not agree any more with you.
I dare to say that Adobe and Corel are only (regarded as) industry standard due to excellent promotion & marketting rather than being excellent.
Same with Symantec/MS Office/iPods/Canon....ad nauseum
I know more people who hate Illustrator for it's complexity and bewildering methology than actually love it, infact I don't know anyone who loves Illustrator. They may be familiar with it and adept, but they dont love it. On the other hand I know people who are passionate about XaraXtreme....
Go figure..

Xara + CS2 just rules, 200 times better than either one of them alone.
I hate illustrator, but love xara.
