this has probably been asked and answered a hundred times, but can any one tell me or point me in the right direction to make text follow a curved line or a circle. this is driving me nuts. thanx in advance for any help.

Fighterpilot,
Do a search on "Text on a Curve". It should give you a lot of leads. Basically though just create your text, create your curve or shape, Select both. Go to the menu bar Arrange / Fit Text to Curve.
