i seem to be unable exporting my drawing as png (true color + alpha) with a transparent background. I get a dark gray background that is not at all in my drawing. What is wrong?

Are you sure that you're not confusing the grey background in the export preview window? It isn't exported as grey. You might be more used to seeing the chequered background in other programs. Do the export and then import it back into XXP. Has it got a transparent background?

Do you have a gray rectangle behind the object you are exporting?

Matt what browser are you viewing the png file?
IE6 does have a gray where the png should be transparent.

yes i am using IE6. Why is it not transparent? What should i do?
IE6 does not support PNG transparency.

microsoft did not support transparency in png until IE7
there is a fix for this for IE6 - see post #8 in this thread:
