Default Can I import a CD 9 file?

    Hi,

I am visiting a customer to work on her catalogue today. The previous designer used Corel Draw 9 to do it in. I have Corel Draw but would really prefer to do the work in Xara. Does anyone know if I can import a CD9 file and work on it?

    Hi Cazza,
I am probably not the right one to answer this question since I haven't used CD for 4 years but if you export your CD file as a *cmx or cdr it should import so long as it has no special effects. My personal choice if you have CD would be to export it as a PDF file.
    Design is thinking made visual.

Xara only imports cdr to version 5. The file will have to be resaved as an earlier version or use CMX...

also If you open it in draw and copy to clibaoard you can paste into Xara, I do this with draw x3. The only drawback is some fill types I believe.

    Thanks Guys,

While with the customer I used CD but will try the ideas you shared to transfer it to Xara to finish the job. It is mostly text with a few line drawings.

I would publish to PDF in Corel, then open the PDF in XPro. Somethings will be converted to static bitmaps (ie., drop shadows), but the result may be better than saving backward to a version 5 cdr format or saving to the CMX (Corel Meta Exchange) format. You'll have to do some testing with different types of files.
