Default "Spurious internal error has occurred." in Xara Xtreme 2.0f

    Hello,
I hope anyone can help me:
Each time I try to open a file I get the messafe "Spurious internal error has occurred." and the file won't open.

I tried already the expandXar.exe - but without result.
I download the Xara Pro Demo and tried to open it, but it doesn't work either (I think it said "Failed to load xar file." this time.)

Since I spend a lot of time on this one I hope that anyone can help me...

    I'm using Xara Xtreme 2.0f.

    strange-bird,

"spurious internal error" means that your file is no more... sorry...

It's a bug in older relases. Not a very common one, but a bug none the less.

If you do a search for spurious internal error in the forum search, you will find a couple of threads discussing it.

How rare is it? I have used Xara for thousands of hours, and have only encountered the bug once. Many in the forum have never seen it.

Best way to not suffer from it - save different generations of your project in different files. This way you will never lose much, no matter what happens.

Ok... I just saw your file - and it's 606 KB - and you are running Xtreme. Perhaps there is hope for it. Let's see what others say.

I did have this error some months ago, and I figure out that it occures each time I deleted an object wich uses a live effect. I became very careful about that - at last for some time ...

Thanks a lot, none the less. At last I can now concentrate on the rebuild, and stop searching ...

So there still is some hope? What has the file size got to do with it?

If a file is corrupt and the file size is very low you can be fairly certain nothing useful is likely to remain.
However if the file size is not too far off what you would have expected then it may be possible that data is there, if you can get to it.

This may well requires someone with technical knowlege of xara code though.

Just remembered... Xara has a recovery program for corrupt files. I have never used it myself, so do use the readme file as instructed.

You can fetch it from here.

Give it go. Let us know if it worked for you.
