After recently knowing what Steve Jobs did to his first daughter for the earlier part of her life.... I don't think I'll ever use anything related to Apple again

It's fact, that Steve Jobs completely abandoned his first daughter "Lisa" for a good portion of her life (from birth until about age 12. He completely denied her and ignored her.

Maybe fact but also nothing to do with Apple as a company.

Do i agree with abandoning kids...for carreer or whatever? Not a chance but I am old enough and long enough in the tooth to realize that people do stupid things in their lives that they may one day regret. Should we be punished forever for being immature idiots when a youngster. Thats not an excuse but is a fact of life.

I guess if I could say I have not been an idiot at times in my life for whatever reason then I can quite reasonably point my finger at others. I can't so I don't. Can you?

None of it is relevant except to the parties involved.

My nieces all have suffered similar so I do know what it can do to a child.

I've used Apple since the desktop publishing revolutiuon started, one of the first covers I did was with Illustrator 1.0. Working from home as I do now I use a G4 and Adobe Premium Collection to carry out my day to day business. I have always used Xara on my PC portable for a lot of things because of its simplicity.

I would like to see a Mac version of Xara and then I would only need my pc to test web pages.

If nothing else, having a machine that's a pleasure to look at and use, rather than something made to be a clone of everything else.

I have to say that Mac products always seem so clinical to me. Certainly not pleasing to my eye.
The gap between Windows and Mac GUI's is closing, though I must comment that while Mac seems to do it a little nicer, they also go way over the top with everyting that opens and shuts. But then, I dislike animated figs

Competing products will always spawn unnecessary bells'n'whistles to wow the buyers. At the end of the day these new thrills and eye candies don't get the job done any faster and, to be frank - many of the 'new features and benefits' will not even be fully used by the end-user (if at all).

So , this is a personal preference ? And their is really no advantage to me having a Mac or PC. What about a Linux box?

    Everything is a personal preference.

It all depends what is important to you and how much money you are comfortable spending to get what you want.

Ask yourself what you want from a computer - what you must have and what you'd like. Then compare.

For example, if you have little need for off the shelf commercial software and like dabbling with operating systems, Linux is perfect for you.

If you need lots of commercial software, like windows and bland boxes, a PC will suit you down to the ground.

If you have more money to spend, design matters and you need some commercial software, then a Mac is for you.

The choice of computer is hardly a black and white subject area.
