    Default Experiment in colors

I was reading a Photoshop blog about an exhibition called something like Colors of Nature (or Colors In Nature) where the artist "stretched out" some colors and also left some object in the image in the new artwork. This is fairly simple in Photoshop where you can easily make a one pixel wide (or high) across the image. After that you just stretch that select from side to side. The technique is easy, the hard part is to find the right place to stretch so you get harmonious colors!
Anyway, I thought I should try that in Xtreme and this is what I came up with.

I found out that this technique is also very useful if you want to create a palette with limited colors.

    Very nice!

Now the next question is...How did you do that?

Is the image you want to retain "cut out" and placed on a seperate layer then the "pixel smear" takes place?

And what is the technique for the "pixel smear"?

    Always curious,

To put it shortly (I'm in a hurry at the moment):

    1) Import a bitmap
    2) Copy the bitmap and outline the object you want "intact" (eg with the shape tool)
    3) Cut out the object and apply 1-2 pixel feathering
    4) Draw a 1 px line vertically across the bitmap
    5) convert the line to shape
    6) select bitmap and the 1 pixel wide shape (ex-line) and intersect
    7) stretch the intersection
    8) select the cutout object and apply a drop shadow

and then you can fiddle around and experiment more with feathering and transparencies
