Steve I'm only trying to convey the reasoning that I read about why the change was made. I personally think the change was a MAJOR mistake.

Sure Bill
I understand that - please don't think I'm doing anything more than making the point.
Don't believe in shooting the messenger - especially when he's got such a cute new outfit

Steve I see your point and hope that the decision makers at Xara also see it.
Having the space bar toggle to the Selector Tool is one of the most logical and intuitive features (IMHO) that Xara X, X¹, Xtreme and Xtreme Pro 3.0 had.
When I was making the sketch that I post to the June Stop & Post thread my workflow was adversely affected. Not being able to tap the space bar to toggle between the Select Tool and the Fill Tool to adjust the fills on the flower petals was a pain. I did not make the change back to the Selector Tool in Pro until after making the original sketch and the update.

I am happy that the space bar switches to the move tool as I often use Xara with Photoshop so a bit of tool compatibility is a plus for me.
I have just upgraded to 3.2 pro, very pleased to see that you can now paste formatted text.
The release notes detail new keyboard shortcuts. ALT+S or more simply just V will still switch to the Selector tool.
There are other one-key shortcuts for returning yourself to the other tools:
Cool - keyboard shortcuts for ClipView. We just need one for the colour dropper and be able to disable double-clicking-a-bitmap-opens-the-bitmap-editor and we're all set!(Copied from Key Shortcut Changes chapter of the release notes)
• Holding down space bar now does a temporary switch into the Push tool. Releasing it returns to the previous selected tool. Or, pressing it once will switch to the Push tool, pressing it again will return to the previous tool.
• Plain numeric 1, 2, 3, 4 set the zoom to be 100% to 400%. Number 5 key sets it to be 50% (The old shortcuts on these keys have been moved to Ctrl+Shift+1, 2 etc)
• Ctrl+W closes the current document, as is becoming an industry standard shortcut.
Some other recent key shortcut changes include:
• Ctrl+Shift+R shows or hides the rulers
• V selects the Selector tool
• T selects the Text tool
• Z selects the Zoom tool
• G selects the Fill tool
• H selects the Hand (push) tool
• L selects the Ellipse tool
• M selects the Rectangle tool
• N selects the Freehand tool
• W selects the Blend tool
• Q applies ClipView to the selected objects
• Alt+Q removes a ClipView
XX is just crazy at $79, I think it's entirely reasonable that extra features including customisation of keyboard shortcuts should exclusive to XXP - heck, it's only $249 bought new, $170 if you have XX already - it is an absolute steal.

The App that changes the short cut was written by Ruben Perchansky here on Talk graphics.. PM him.. He might have it on his site for DL... but I know nothing... for sure.
Maybe there is a link here in the forums. Do a search for Rubem and see what you find. I have PRO but know this app has been around for a bit.
Gaming keyboard with 12 additional macro keys helps a lot too.
