Had to experiment with this right away. Not that this is a good background for the car, but I just wanted to try it out. Really, really cool, Paul.

I rotated the picture to enable a diagonal intersect.
The stretched stripy pattern shape was then given a linear transparency and a little feathering.
Such a neat idea from gnurf in the first place.
