    Hi All,
I'm looking for help in creating a frame for a photo that looks like a polaroid, and also an old-fashioned postcard edge that is sort of scalloped. I did a search but nothing came up. If anyone can point me in the right direction - to either an existing tut, or a better search technique, I'd be much obliged. Thank you!

    Hi Maggols,

I would grab a pair of those scalloped scissors at walmart, and cut a piece of paper. Lay the cut edge over a different color sheet, scan it and trace the edge in xara....

To get a scalloped edge - draw a circle - create a brush from the circle. Adjust the spacing on the brush to suit the size/type of scallop required.

Draw a rectangle, duplicate it on the duplicate set the line style to the scallop brush, convert line to shape and subtract from or add to the original rectangle.

    Hi Christine,

I like your idea better. If you made the circles the same color of as the background, would you have to even cut out the rectangle?

The Blend Tool also comes in really handy for distributing shapes, as shown in one of my favourite XaraXone tutorials - the Snowman in the glass globe (making of the broom.)

Talking about Polariods. If you haven't already checked out our Talkgraphics friend, Joel Schilling's photograpghy - DO SO!

Here is a direct link to his very cool Polaroid SX70 manipulations (it is waaay trickier to do than one would think.)

Those Joel Schillings images are better than any PS filters at achieving that painted look.

Does he do all just by putting pressure on the envelope. Hard to believe as it is a great effect!

    Hello Albacore,

Yes it is pressure, but you must use the correct instruments and know when and how much pressure to apply http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/smile.gif . It is a technique unique to SX70 time zero film.

How about something like this for the Polaroid photo.

As I recall, it's been sooo long, there was more space at the bottom, or was it the side, because that is where the chemicals were.

Auto f/x Dream Suite also has a series of filters that can create a who range of deckeled edges, slide mounts, film, and more.
