Default Newbie needs help: Ships crest overlaying a photo.

Can anyone make or tell me how to make a design pattern for a button, I want to use Royal Navy Squadron / ships crests as a revolving button with background of an aircraft or ship to make avatars or phone logos. The ones i have made so far look rubbish as i cant get the crests into the right position or i end up with lots of them.

This is the kind of thing I want but with no white just the crest.

then have it revolving over thhe ship

    cheers

I know I shouldn't be encouraging requests but I was bored and I need the practice.
Anyone know how to shrink the badge as it would of looked better above the ship? The only option I can find is the fit to width option but the size jump when wanting to shrink the badge is too much.

It was hand traced using the line tool. The bitmap tracer makes it look jagged if you know what I mean. I can never get a smooth enough edge.

    Welcome Chilly,

As you can see Xara3D can create the images that you're after. Your main problem is the same as a lot of new users have. You are using a bitmap image when you require a vector image. This problem comes up to often to go over it again but if you search this forum, probably using "rectangle" as the search word you should find adequate reading to glean the difference.

1: Your ships crests need to be a vector shapes (drawn with lines) not a bitmap.

2: You can then use the bitmap crest to apply as TEXT texture to this vector crest.

3: You can then import your ship image as a BACKGROUND texture.

As a newbie you're probably scratching your head right now but provided you want to learn the process you'll get no end of help here.
