A Read Error Occurred

DEAR ALL...

IM having a problem with my xara file... it gives me a read error occurred.. i tried to solved it but i failed, although i can see it in preview and no change in file size.. i found this error happened to one of the members and GerryI solved it for him... but i couldnt contact Gerryi.

so anyone can help me please in this....

Sorry to hear about your read error.

You can try to recover the file using the ExpandXar.exe available for download on the Xara Xone.

Thanks alot but i tried this option and i got a 22k empty file...

I use ExpandXar.exe for my Designer Pro file.

There are no notice how to use in ReadMe.txt.

This is use in command at windows cmd.exe

Ran at C:\ FILEPLACE , Comand is fallowing.

ExpanXar badfile.xar(named by you) outfile.xar(named by you)

What wonderful is it?

If you are using Designer Pro as long as you have not disabled the auto back up feature you should be able to go to File > open recent and at the bottom of the list click back ups. This will bring up a list of back up files look for a back up of the file you were working on that was created prior to the error and you should be able to open that. You may have lost a few mins worth of work depending on when your last successful save or back up was but it is better than losing an entire document.

Frances if you are replying to dsultan he/she has not been back to the forums since 18 February 2007.

There are some cases where ExpandXar.exe cannot recover a bad file because there is not enough of the file remaining with useable data.

I also wonder if there is an updated version of ExpandXar.exe that can work with the newer releases of Designer Pro and Photo & Graphic Designer.

I believe she was replying to yumisaiki, who posted yesterday.

I can't tell if yumisaiki is saying it didn't work, or if it worked well.

Hi Allison, I think yumisaiki was telling dsultan how to use ExpandXar.exe at a command prompt. He/She has the correct syntax and seems to think it is a wonderful app.

my response was to yumisaiki as he/she mentioned having designer Pro, and as long as you don't disable the back up function in Designer pro you should have backup files there that can be quickly opened with out the need for expand xar. I thought that as this old thread has now been brought back to the surface that it may confuse new users, so I wanted to make sure that up to date information was here.

Yes I fond ExpandXar.exe which is old post, But I was nice news for me, so I just write about it for my memory.
