a bridge too far

Ha thought we were going to Korea didn't ya? Actually a hand project (pool bridge) that I'm working on. I'm having a lot of trouble making the wrinkles in my hand look like wrinkles. They keep coming out looking like lines even though I blur them and transparent them to varying degrees. Anybody tried to duplicate a hand to this degree? I know you have one Raymond that inspired me to start this but I'm hoping to finely detail it for a good overall effect. Can't wait to start drawing hairs on the back of my hand. I obviously don't know this stuff like the back of my hand hey?

It might help to move the basic skin more towards red and darken the lines but I'm just struggling with this.

I am using multiple layers to keep the various parts separate like, wrinkles, shadows, basic hand shape, etc.

Help please...

You need to have shading and colors to show the definition. Now all you have is the skin is one color and a line of a darker color to represent the wrinkles. It is a good outline and looks ok. But if you want it to look more realisitic you will need more definition. This will be the use of shading and different color in between the outline and wrinkle line. I dont know that anyone can tell you how to do this other than work through some tutorials and practice practice practice.

Chuck, I used your jpg images to do some quick examples of what Bruce mentions. Just enough to show you some things that you could use. As with all things Xara there are many ways to achieve the end result.

Hi Chuck,

as an ex-snooker player who could (at one time) make a 'century' every couple of months (others with knowledge of the 'Crucible' will explain), I am wondering where the 'Ha thought we were going to Korea didn't ya?' came into this conversation?

Like your 'bridge' attempt though but never liked pool or billiards.

One way to have 'em not looking like simple drawn lines.

Not accurate by any means, just demonstrating method.

And to Matelot, you are right "A Bridge Too Far" was a story about WWII not Korea like I was thinking. I Stand corrected.

Good, saves me the trouble of telling you about Arnhem. Anyway, simple solution to your specific problem might be subtle use of the Bevel tool on your lines. i.e. large value but with low contrast.
