Corel Xara is an older version of Xara, prior to Xara X. There was a time when there was a relationship with Corel, probably to help with marketing, etc. From what I understand it was more beneficial to Corel than Xara, thus the ending and the resumption of independence.

Mel 3, i had never heard about it before until you mentioned it, which promted me to find out what it was that you were talking about.
From what i have read on the xara website corel xara is a product of xara's before Xara xtreme which superseded corel xara.
This is my uderstanding of it which may be wrong.
I hope this helps you Mel 3.

Thanks Guys!
This might be a good time for me (as a newcomer to graphics) to ask for a clear and unbiased opinion with regard to which is the better program: Xara Xtreme or Corel Draw?
The reason for this question is that I am considering purchasing Xtreme for my daughter - BUT, my son-law (who is a Systems Resource Manager, Agric. Canada) says this is a waste of time for her! He already has placed CorelDraw on her computer and believes it to be the better program for her as a budding graphics newbie.
Advice please.
If she already has Corel Draw to use then download Xara for a trial period and try them side by side to do a few projects or to just play around.

Hi Matelot,
Any answer to your question would be subjective. Different people would say one program is better than another.
I personally prefer Xara Xtreme to CorelDraw. Both are vector drawing applications and have many of the same features. I find Xara Xtreme to more intuitive and easier to learn than CorelDraw.
Your son-in-law probably has never heard of Xara, but he has heard of Corel. He thinks the name brand is better without ever looking at an alternative.

The fact that we tend to rename our product a lot admittedly does tend to confuse people a bit. But the recent history:
(Xara XS, the free version of the range, sits somewhere between Xara X and Xara X1.)Code:CorelXARA > Xara X > Xara X1 > Xara Xtreme > Xara Xtreme Pro > Xara LX (now Xtreme for Linux)
And there is no program called Xara. If people refer to Xara they are generally referring to one of the Xtremes.
I'd start a revolution, if I could get up in the morning.
Sure Xara Webster came between Corel Xara and Xara X did it not?
