How can you erase some writing on a picture and add your own writing?? my friend emailed me a pic and I want to edit the pic I am using photoshop elements

If the pic is a jpeg the text is no longer text, just part of the image. You can't remove this easily without removing the background image.

If the text is on a plain area of the image just add a new layer then place a rectangular marquee around the text and fill with a colour similar to the background colour. Next, just use the text tool to type your own text.

What is the picture of? If it's a photo of someone you could do a cutout of the photo and put in a different background and then add the new text . If it's not too personal you may like to post the picture for others to experiment with and then show you the way.
