That's just one of the reasons I don't use Acrobat unless forced.

Another is the way it silently resets the automatic update option. If you don't remember to turn that off every time you apply an update, you may well have the pleasure of watching Acro's update window suddenly appear in the midst of a critical job that has nothing to do with Acro or pdfs. And Acro doesn't take no for an answer (at least not nicely).

Although it's a pay-for, I prefer the Jaws Editor. It's very rare that I open a pdf in anything else. Many fewer bells & whistles, but then that's one of the reasons it's so much cheaper, so much faster, so much more reliable -- and so much less annoying. Plays nicely with Xtreme's pdfs. They pop right open at the end of the export process.

I set my boss up with Free Xpert PDF Reader. It worked better than Foxit on the test documents, and he's had no complaints. Don't know if it would meet the needs of a user who's a graphics professional.
