    Just a quick question:

Does X1 have the ability to set the Text font in the templates?

Great Forum this - I learn so much from it.

    Hello Colin,

You can set the default font in the templates now with x1.

You can even save the default text with the drawing.

Click on the page with the Text Tool. Select a font, a font size, a font color, a font style, and then select the Selector Tool (the arrow pointer).

This sets the default text properties.

Save your file and reopen and the text properties will remain the same.

And as John points out, you can create other defaults such as fill and line color, line width, etc. and save the page or save the page as a template.

    Gary/John

I've tried doing what you suggested Gary regarding saving the default font with the drawing but whatever I do, it doesn't seem to work for me.

I tried it by just placing the text tool on the page without typing anything and then saving it as a template but no, on loading Xara again, the font settings selected had not been saved. I tried the same again but this time typing simply my name and again saved it as a template. Again the font and size selected was not saved. Yes, of course the typed text retained its typeface etc. but click elsewhere on the page with the text tool and the default of Arial 10pt returned.

Whatever I do, Xara always come back to Arial 10pt as the default font. You both seem adamant that this can be done so I'm obviously doing something wrong. Could I therefore ask you to please go through it in easy stages for a dolt of the highest order. Many thanks.

    Hi Tracey,

Try setting "Give new objects most recent attributes" in the Options dialog. (Utilities menu, Options... item, then make sure you're looking at the "General" tab and you should see that switch.)

Then try Gary's sequence again. That should work.

Technically: The reason this might fix your problem is that Xara X only saves the attributes (things like fonts and colours) that will be automatically applied to the next object you draw. And Xara X only changes what those attributes are if you have the "Give new objects most recent attributes" switch set.

    Hi Tracey,

When I want to change the default fault is just do the following steps with nothing selected to start with...

    1. Select The Font Tool
    2. Select the desired font
    3. click on "set" on the popup

    See pretty pic...

    John,

I guess Tracey wasn't shown that popup when she followed Gary's procedure because she didn't mention it...?

Probably, someone had previously clicked the "Quiet" button on the popup to prevent it appearing.

Setting "Give new objects most recent attributes" will bypass this popup dialog, whether it has been told to be quiet or not.

    Hi PhilM,

If Tracey follows the steps in the numbers below she can turn it back on...

Thanks one and all - I really find this annoying in XaraX as our house style is Arial. I do use the "most recent attribues" feature but being able to template it will be so much better.

Looking at other posts, I don't think I can wait any longer to take the upgrade.

    Cheers

    Colin
