Alan,
Even though I am an American, believe me, there is much my country does that no one likes. I thankfully got out of making the huge meal this year!

Every day's a new day, "draw" on what you've learned.

no better holiday than Thanksgiving. We had a rather good one this year. We grew and slaughtered our own turkey, grew the sweet potatoes and corn as well. Most of the herbs we used were home grown as well. The turkey was smoked (in the smoker my wife bought me for fathers day) and the family was all together. The meal was finished off with some reserve homemade sloe gin as well... It was pretty picture perfect this year.

Joe, that sounds great, but didn't you guys become attached to the turkey and name it and treat it as a pet?
(One of my dogs is giving me the eye...)

For the most part the breeders get named, those destined for the pot don't. (though there are exceptions for those that have particular features or behaviors but are otherwise not of breeding quality). We have a small holding where we raise rabbits, chickens, ducks, turkey, goats, sheep and bees. It's not for everyone but it works well for us. It's nice knowing where your food comes from and having quality ingredients to cook with.

late again....
Late but nevertheless welcome GeoBen. Lovely drawing. I always find it hard to draw feathers. Thanks for sharing your turkey with us.
