Default export to precise dimentions without constaining proportions

I need to create an image which is exactly 1024 x 1280 pixels.

I've set this as my page size however when I export it, the export dialogue box automatically resizes the image to 1024 x 1296. I have tried altering the 'Scale' when exporting as a bitmap, and the 'DPI' when exporting as a PNG but Xara insists upon constraining the proportions. How do I get around this problem?

    hi,
if you don't mind, export your file; do the resizing in another program.
I usually do that in paint shop pro.
Never put off to tomorrow what you can avoid altogether.

I couldn't recreate this, there must something else at work here. (Maybe there's a 16 pixel white border that you haven't noticed, it happens.)

Anyway, it is not necessary to change the page size to suit your image, unless you have transparent areas in your image and you need a background colour to suit. Even then, the page size doesn't need to match the image, just make it slightly larger.

Just size your image to suit (in your case 1280x1024) regardless of the page size, select it and export as "Selection" in the Export Dialog>Bitmap Size>Area To Save.

Look at your drawing in Outline view. This will show if you have any font borders or shadows overlapping the edges of what you think is your image.

The easy way round it is to create a 1280x1024 background image as the bottom-most element in your drawing and to ONLY select that when you export to raster.

Ooops! Quite right BF. For some reason, I assumed that hamishmacd's image was a bitmap - stupid boy!

Thanks everyone, especial thanks to Big Frank. That did the trick.

I created a new blank layer.

I then created a rectangle of the precise dimentions I needed and locked that layer.

I then deselected everything, and just selected that hollow, zero border rectangle.

And finally I exported the selection.

I'd always assumed that the export selection option just exported the individual entity which is selected, I didn't know it also exported all that lays within its borders on other layers too. Useful thing to know.

    Thanks again.

OMG, that's more free help I've given out with no thought for personal gain (just like a lot of other much more helpful good souls on here). I'll have to stop this else my reputation as a badass grouch is at risk...
