Default Cutting selected images from a photograph.

There have been a few queries and some talk recently re cutting images from a photograph or removing a background using Xara.

These two images, the first being the original, demonstrates how efficiently this can be done in Xara:

I don't think people wondered whether it could be done... I think they wanted a plug-in that would take the hard work out of it. I have Knockout 2 and even this would have had problems with that image. Nice job by the way, must have taken you a while.
If someone tried to make me dig my own grave I would say No.

Took an evening. Those spokes and the fins were a pain.
The guy for whom I did it was well pleased anyway.

Any chance fo putting together a "Egg"-type video for the procedure used. Although if it took you an evening it would be a darned long tutorial...
I can believe the chap would have been impressed, it's a great job!

    Cheers

Egg has already done a video on doing this.
The only difference is he used a cow instead of a bike.

All you do is draw a shape exactly over the bits you want removed then press ctrl+2

    Really, it's that simple.

    Zoom in for accuracy.

That's it - all you need is patience.

Tip: How far to zoom in?
    Whatever you need.
Consider that in some parts of that exercise
a line width of 0.01 pt at a zoom level of over 2,500% was used.
That should give you a clue.

Thanks for the additional info on cutting/extracting parts from a photo Raymond. I have not used/seen any reference to Cntl2 before but now, as I am getting things back up to speed I will surely try it.

    great pix by the way.

yw and thank you. Really, it's quite easy.

I originally purchased Xara (Corel Xara at the time) primarily for this feature so as to be more easily able to animate photographs.

Before you do ctrl+2 do you not have to use the select tool?
I found ctrl+2 did nothing until I selected then shift key held down and outer selected

Yes, Norman, my bad, I should have mentoned that both the photograph and the shape should be selected before pressing ctrl+2.

(Thought you were in the Bahamas?)
