    Default "Save As" options

I've just ordered Xara Xtreme 1, haven't received it yet. In what format does Xtreme automatically save files? Is it possible to save as high resolution .tif files?

Xara files are saved natively as .xar files. A vector format. You can however export them in a number of other formats .tif certainly being one of them.

Here is the list of export formats from the xara help file.

.BMP Windows Bitmap (see Creating BMP files)

.DCX DCX (see Creating DCX files)

.PCX PCX (see Creating PCX files)

.GIF CompuServe GIF (see Creating GIF files)

.GIF Animated GIF files (see Creating animated GIF files)

.JPG JPEG (see Creating JPEG files)

.PDF Portable Document Format (see Creating PDF files)

.PCT PICT (see Creating PICT files)

.PNG PNG (see Creating PNG files)

.RAS Sun Raster (see Creating RAS files)

.TGA TrueVision TARGA (see Creating TARGA files)

.TIF TIFF (RGB) (see Creating TIFF files)

.WPG Word Perfect Group (256 color) (see Creating WPG files)

    EPS Export Formats

    .AI Illustrator EPS

    .EPS Illustrator EPS

.EPS Xara Xtreme EPS (see Xara Xtreme EPS Overview)

    Other Export Formats

    Question Re: "Save As" options

Is there a difference between 'Save As' a Format and Export to the Same Format in the End product?

"Save as" saves the Xara file to where you want it with whatevername youchoose - "Export" exports the image into the image format you choose.
"Intbel" ... "Can't" is not an option.

Compliance is futile. Resistance is futile. Just do your own thing an' ignore 'em.

I most recently sent this message to Xara support. I have Xara Xtreme, I bought it about a week ago. Here is what I sent them (with the images that resulted):

I am trying to export an image that is 336pix wide X 192pix high. The program refuses, in everyway that I have tried, to mantain the overall size of the exported image. It ends up that the image is in the upper right hand corner of the media box (see attached tiff), instead of being the media box, in and of itself. In the PDF the shadowing that I put for the text is not at the same distance as it is in the original (see attached). Do you have any suffestions as to how I can save the image and mantain a high quality image for print? As well, how can I get a PDF that does not alter the image?

I have checked out the help files and have found nothing on this subject. I am exporting in tiff and PDF. I am trying to mantain a quality for print...

    Can you help me
    Thank you
    Brian Morin
Now something I did not say is that this image is supposed to be a business card. 5.08 X 8.89 cm (2" X 3½" in) which seems to come out to 336pix X 192pix. The output does not reflect this however...

Any help will be much appreciated...

    Thanks
    Brian

There are options on export, either "drawing" , "selection" or "page". Drawing will export the entire contents of the file, so if you have some wayward object off to the side of your business card image it will export a box that encompases all content and therefore not be the size you want. If you exprot page it will export the entire page size so if you have one item in the corner of the page you will get your card in a large field of white. Selection will export only what you have currently selected, so if you select your card design, hit export and choose selection it will export as an image (what ever format you choose) only the card design itself.

    Clear as mud?
