I'm so excited that I might just run out and get my colon irrigated! Nothing says fun like a hose in unmentionable places. Do I know how to celebrate or what?

If someone tried to make me dig my own grave I would say No.

    Plessey's logo is my favourite.
In a single line tells you their name and that they are into electronics.

Logo's are a very common topic here at the forums. There have been many discussions here on logos. If you have not read Gary Priester's articles on "Logos for the Design Challenged" and you are looking more resources on logo design then check it out.

The articles will reinforce many of the points made in this thread about logo design.
You might want to read these too.

I do not like it. First, unless it comes with their name in a readable fashion, I have no idea what it is spelling. pAwwwy? pHmmy? pliiiiy? And until I see their name, I cannot quickly see that they are trying to make a connection between electronics and their company. You have to know the company before the design makes sense.

LOL Plessey is a very old defence and electronics contractor. The waveform represents the trace (of their name) on an oscilloscope.

It may be me, but I thought there was more than a modicum of sarcasm in the post.... but then again I'm probably wrong... I usually am...

Same goes for, say, McDonald's 'M' logo.
Need to know the company - if you didn't, the their logo is meaningless.
Could be a logo for mothercare ...

On the issue of representing a company's business sector/type in their logo... I think this was mentioned somewhere... what about those mentioned above and CNN (Cable News Network), GE (General Electric), Google (What the heck do they do?) and YouTube for a few examples. Pretty big companies but nothing related about their business sector in their logo. i Guess they had professional designers construct their logos, but who knows.

    Cheers
