    Default Designing a logo

    Hi All,

Well I've been asked to desing a logo for an acquaintance who runs a company called act. They store anything you can think of. I just wondered if anyone could offer any inspiration for this... I know it's kinda cheeky to ask, but I'm doing it free of charge so I might as well ask all you designer chappies out there...

    Cheers

    Hmm

The least you could do is provide a design brief.
If someone tried to make me dig my own grave I would say No.
They're going to kill me anyway and I'd love to die the way I lived:

There's no brief... it's a free for all.... lol
Basically a small company that stores anything from documents to cars and buses.... I thought some might find it a nice bit of a relaxed exercise for the end of the week.... I have plenty of paper doodles myself, but still to put onto xara. I was thinking of very simplistic designs... based around the letters a, c and t.

But feel free to exercise your imagination.

    Cheers

The mindscape design is pretty darn good.

I understand where Big Frank is coming from. I think the OP has good intentions and from time to time we all like to help out our friends. I think what's riling Frank (and me, a little) is that the OPs friend is using this in a business situation where he is making money from his friends (and indeed this forums) goodwill. I guess the money he'll save will be going into his own pocket rather than that of anyone else. Hopefully the OP will at the very minimum get a crate of beer out of it.

Recently (I'm not a 'real' designer) I offered to design a logo for someone (not a friend) and after some exchanges and variants, it was sold (for about $200). That made me feel good and the buyer was also pleased. In other circumstances I have designed Logos as part of a website package, but they've been included with the (payable) whole. I've only ever done logo work for free twice. Once for a school and once for a friend of mine that has helped find me web work and is just starting out in a small venture.

Really, for me the rule is simple: if you have money to run a substantial business, you have money to pay for a logo. If you don't you're freeballing at someone else's expense.

Yeah, but to be honest, he only asked for inspiration.

he didn`t say, "make me a logo for free".

I made a logo, and technically, I still own the copyright on it.
No arrangement or agreement was made. I just showed a logo.
But if he uses it as an inspiration for his work, he is keeping
to what he asked for, just some inspiration.

He gave me some inspiration, and at a time I was bored out of my pants
because normally I work construction so I am very busy running
around etc. now I have to sit down and take it easy.
Which for me, is very, well, boring.

(So any more idears are very welcome.)

(oh yeah, he might have asked in the linux section, they get their program for free
so they are in the freebee world, so they might understand the freebee rules.

I think the beef is with his friend, not the OP!
