Default How to resume Work in Progress

I have been using the Shape editor tool fairly successfully for 'extracting parts of photographs but recently started a large project that required a lot of 'add points' etc. I had to break off the work before completing the whole thing so saved it as 'work in progress'. I had no problems in getting back to the project but on reaching the original 'start point' I found that I could not get the lines to join. No matter what I did I could not achieve a full ' cut-out'.

    How can I do this?

    Hi Matelot,

    From the Xara Xtreme help:

You can join two separate lines to create a single line.
    To join lines
    1. Choose the Selector Tool.
    2. Click on the first line to select it.
    3. Shift-click on the second line to select it.
    4. (Using either the Selector Tool or the Shape Editor Tool) drag the end point handle of one line over the end handle of the other line - the mouse pointer shows a '+' when the two handles are over each other.
    5. Release the mouse button and the lines will be joined.
Release the mouse button to join the lines

Select the line you want to continue with the Selector Tool so the nodes are shown. Use the Shape Editor Tool and place the cursor over an end node of the selected line. When the Shape Editor Tool cursor changes from the Cross Hairs with the curved line to Cross Hairs with a four point arrow (north-south-east-west type of thing), you can click that node and then continue adding more nodes.

If you select a line segment and give it a different outline color, you can better see where it begins and ends.

If you want to close an open path, you can select the starting or ending control point with the Shape Editor Tool and press Enter.

    4. (Using either the Selector Tool or the Shape Editor Tool)....

Frank, I think you meant the Shape Editor Tool or the Pen Tool. I don't think you can select control points with the Selector Tool. Can you?

    Hi matelot,

It sounds like you've got 2 or more lines to me. It's quite easy to do. The best way to find out is to ensure the status bar is saying "1 Line" then change the colour as Gary suggests. This soon shows if there's a break in the line.

Frank, I think you meant the Shape Editor Tool

Gary, item 4 is a direct copy of Xara Xtreme Help. Maybe Antony wrote that

Bill - Sorry Soquilli. You're off the hook BF.

It was late and I just finished grinding out the Oct. tutorial and my mind was not working.

    Ack.

Thanks for all the comments folks.
I have tried the suggestions and failed once again (before I lost my system) but did learn quite a bit from your remarks. I found that what I had done was to 'recommence' incorrectly so I had more than one start point.
When I get back up to speed I will try again using different line colours. maybe that way i will be able to see where I need to be in the project.
