Question Changing Photos to Images - t-shirts

    Hi Everyone!

I'm new to this forum and have just signed up with the trial version of xara xtreme!

So far, it looks pretty nice.

I'm just a beginner with this graphics stuff and am looking for a somewhat "beginners" program, so I think this might be the one!

My question that I can't figure out is:

Can I take a photograph, upload it to xara, and then turn it into a simple outlined image? I'm looking to create a simple, basic image and then screenprint it on a t-shirt.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks so much!

I really enjoy reading these forums!

I believe you can do it two ways:

    - Use the bitmap tracer (and this will create a mesh of many images). Try it and the result may meet your expectation...

    - Trace the outline on a different layer. Try this demo http://www.xaraxone.com/guest/guest39/

I am very new to this and just last week I downloaded my trial version. There may be many more ways to do this...

    Hi,
Tracing may do it but if your image is too complex, the resultant trace may be too complicated for an outline.

A good way is to use 3rd party photoshop-compatible plugins and these work in Xara. Others may suggest free ones but a v. good one that does this and much more besides is Fo2pix BUZZ simplifier filters. See examples on their website

There is also the free autotrace -- http://autotrace.sourceforge.net/

I have not tried it, but it is advertised as working similar to Corel trace, the utility that has been supplied with CorelDRAW since at least version 8.

As with anything on source forge, you may need to raise and activate your geek shield.

Later: no, forget it -- this is total geek ware. Apparently you have to compile it yourself using Visual C++.

There is an ability to use it online at http://www.roitsystems.com/cgi-bin/autotrace/tracer.pl

You will probably have to take advantage of the many question-mark help links.

    Sorry, Dave

You could try utilising Xara's bump map as shown here.
