    Default Removing Background

Is here a way to remove the background of an image or gif? A friend of mine took a picture of a group of people standing in a boat. The boat was parked in a parking lot. Using Photoshop he got rid of the background and placed the boat in the water and it looked like everyone was enjoying a boat ride. The picture was incredible. I'd like to think Xarx Xtreme would do this.

    thanks

    Hi David,

Check out Egg's video Tutorials http://talkgraphics.com/showthread.php?t=21893

The tutorial "Extracting Part of a Photograph" link is about the middle of his list at present time.

Check out the sticky topic labled "Egg's Video Tutorials". One of them is entitled "Extracting part of a photograph", which explains exactly how to do this very thing.
This signature would be seven words long if it was six words shorter.

Deja vous. A few days ago I posted this message which should help:

Please always remember the search engine. You will probably find answers are already there.

A very quick search brings up a few topics that look relevant:

Transparent Background on an existing graphic
Help Seperating Picture From SingleColor Background
How can I remove a background behind a persons photo?
    Picture Background
And I will add to that list the topic in question:
    Removing Backdrop from photo?
I'd start a revolution, if I could get up in the morning.

    Hi Bigmoe,

You also need the msvcrt10.dll, you can download it from http://www.xaraxone.com/html/seans_filters.html
Download it an put it in the same folder you placed the transparency plug-in.

    Hi Bigmoe,

The workbook was written when Xara X¹ was the current version. Now that Xara Xtreme is the current version some modifications to the step are required for the plug in to show up in the Live Effects listing instead of the older Bitmap Effects.

I'll see if I can explain the steps as I had to play around awhile to get this to work.

    1. Create a folder in the Program Files/Xara/Xara Xtreme/Xara Picture Editor/PSplug-ins (I named my folder SSFilters)
    2. Place the Transparency plug-in and the msvcrt10.dll in that folder.
    3. Open Xara Xtreme and select the Live Effects Tool (Ctrl+F5).
    4. Click the Setup button on the Infobar for the Live Effects (it is just below the gallery icons on the toolbar in my setup.
    5. On the Options dialog, the Effects & plugins tab should be selected.
    6. Click the Setup button in the Photoshop Plugins section.
    7. Click the Add Folder button, then find the folder you created in step 1.
    8. Click the OK button and the path to the folder should show in the window.
    9. Make sure the check box at the bottom of the PS Plug-ins location setup dialog is checked so that "Enable Host Specific Plug-ins" is enabled.

The 24-bit Transparency should show in your Live Effects.
